Welcome to Math class with Ms. Dinh! You are going to have a great year learning to analyze, organize, reason, and calculate mathematically. I am very excited to have you in this class and look forward to getting to know you this school year. Since learning Algebra is an important step in your education, life, and search for a well paying job, I take great pride in working hard as your teacher. We will succeed together!
EXPECTATIONS
Teacher Ms. Dinh will be fully prepared for each class. She will clearly communicate math concepts and examples and strive to make lessons meaningful. She will also do her best to listen to students, identify the challenges that they face, and help students to overcome difficulties. Ms. Dinh will keep students accountable and celebrate their successes.
Students To succeed in this class, you should be a responsible, optimistic student who makes wise and honest decisions. You will be expected to practice by doing daily homework and participate by working cooperatively with your classmates and the teacher.
CLASS GOALS
1. To master the foundational concepts of Seventh Grade Mathematics.
2. To develop analytic thinking and problem solving ability.
3. To learn to mathematically reason and calculate and appropriately apply such skills.
CLASS CONTENT
There are several important areas of information within this class:
Unit 1- Linear Relationships and Algebraic Representations
Unit 2- Rational Numbers: Connections Among Properties, Operations, and Representations
Unit 3- Linear Relationships and Algebraic Representations and Special Geometric Relationships
Unit 4- CST and Relationships in Data and Graphs
ADDITIONAL HELP
Ms. Dinh will be available for tutoring after school and other times by appointment. Please feel free to contact me if you need additional help.
PROCEDURES
1. Be in your seat with materials prepared according to when the bell rings.
2. Bring your materials [binder with dividers, writing instruments, paper] to class every day.
3. Remain in your seat until dismissed by Ms. Dinh (not the bell!).
4. No drinking or eating allowed in the classroom.
5. Know and obey all the rules of John Muir Middle School including dress code and tardy policy.
6. Effort will be rewarded -- Always give it your best effort. No one succeeds 100% of the time.
GRADES
Grading will be determined using a “total-point system.”
The following scale will be used to assign letter grades to percentages:
90 + % A
80-89% B
70-79% C
60-69% D
Below 59% F
GRADE CONTENTS
Classwork/Homework
Due at the beginning of the period on the day after the day it is assigned unless otherwise instructed. The maximum amount of points on each homework is 5.
Participation
consisting of warm-ups, utilization of homework time, preparedness, neat & accurate note taking, and active participation. This will be assessed by grading notebooks and attendance. Each person gets one point for coming to class on time and participating in class. Being tardy will mean that you lost your point for the day.
Quizzes/Class Projects
There will be a quiz every week on Friday. Projects will be completed each semester and will be equivalent to approximately one unit exam.
Tests will be given at the end of each unit.
Daily Work
Each assignment should have the following heading at the top of the first page of the assignment:

EVERYTHING SHOULD BE DATED, COMPLETED, AND FILES IN THE APPROPRIATE SECTION.
PASSES
The following are good for the semester. At the end of the semester, you may redeem all unused restroom/materials passes for 20 points extra credit. You will not be excused from class without a pass.
